Great Search
Series |
Peter Usborne recognizes
that book pages go from edge to edge, not left to middle and middle to right. When kids
read books they spread out, book flat, elbows down, ready to devour the book in front of
them. So why not use that whole space to capture them? Usborne illustrations are BIG and
often the cross the center of the book. Today you have to be as big as television and
computers to capture kids attention. Pictures like this (hold one up) can do it! |

Dual Level
Reading |
Farmyard Tales |
The Farmyard Tales, Bible Tales, Tales from
Littletown and Castle Tales feature a DUAL LEVEL of READING. There
is a simple line at the top of the page and more text at the bottom.
You could read only the top for a younger child who would like to turn the
page or all the text for a child who would like a more complete
story. When the child begins reading they could read the top and you
could read the bottom - already leveled for you and your budding reader to
read together! |

Unlimited Activity |
any Puzzle Book |
Usborne Books call a child to
be part of their reading experience. Obviously our science experiment or craft books will
engage the child in an activity in addition to reading.
We also have puzzle books which have puzzles on every page of the
continual story. The questions at the ends of each page ask the
reader something about what their reading or about the picture. The
child's reading comprehension skills and critical thinking skills are strengthened
as they work the puzzles. Kids love puzzles, so they do them again
and again. |

Cutaways |
MANY of our books |
Peter
Usborne recognizes childrens natural curiosity. Unfortunately, this is something we
adults stifle in them at a young age. Primarily for their safety and our sanity, we often
tell them "Dont touch" or "Youre not big enough" or
"Stay out of there, youll get hurt." Usborne books take them in and opens
things up. They dont just do this for the older children with the Cutaway series.
Our books start this at a young age. Simply removing part of an airplane wall to expose
seats and baggage compartment in a Toddler Board book explains more to a three year old
than anything you could say to them in words! |

Knowledge in
bite sized chunks |
any of our informational books |
Open any Usborne book and
notice how text is broken up by headings and illustrations. This makes information
manageable. Wherever your child goes in a book, theyll find something that catches
their eye which always has a visible "end" to it. Theyre not bombarded by
a page covered with text and one tiny illustration. This means things are easily
"filed." And when theyre easily filed, theyre easily recalled! |

What Shall I Draw or any project book |
These titles are amazingly different from others you may have run across. Why? Because
their step by step format allows your child to check themselves as they work through the
project. Often the child does not even need to read well yet. By following illustrations,
they will not only finish the project, but it will look like it is supposed to! There is
no better way to boost a child's self esteem than to put them in a position where they
generate their own success! |

That Spells Ducks! And that means Stephen Cartwright! Here I wrap up
our powerful wordless books; how Find the Duck helps children begin and move on to
Farmyard Tales series, Alphabet Book, Farmyard Tales first Word Book, Bedtime Stories etc. That about
covers it! Give clients a good idea of the breadth of all 1100 titles while really selling
them on ones they wont go home without! You can change the titles to better fit a
particular age or audience and it still works!! This helps new consultants feel
comfortable with their material. Have fun with it!! |
