Ideas for building your UBAH business...

BOOKINGS
"Are you familiar with Usborne Books?  Ohhh, they're wonderful for kids of all ages.  We're here booking home shows in this area for September." (insert whatever month you want to book for)
"If you know any people that have children, work with or buy for children, you can get free books for hosting a show!  I'll bring some of my favorites, and our best sellers, and you get free books of your choice based on the sales.  Does that sound like something you might like to do?"  (noncommittal question to get an affirmative answer) If maybe or yes, say "Great!  Would you prefer a weekend or weeknight?"  Have your calendar OUT & continue to select the date.
RECRUITING
"We're looking for good people who like books and would like to earn extra income doing a home based business with this great book company.  Does that sound like something you might be interested in?"  If no, offer them the Hostess Special to get free books.  If yes, show the kits available & ask if they would want the Base Kit or the current Kit Special.  (This makes the question WHICH, not IF)  Have the Consultant Agreement/Kit Order Form in your hand with your parts already filled out.  Current recruiting packet is available to print from CIA - the button on the left from your MY UBAH page.

1) Set up books at your Yard Sale?
Since yard sale folks are looking for 25 cent books, you can put the display table of books with a big sign saying something like -
"NOT FOR SALE.  Book a Home Show Today and Get These Entertaining and Educational Books FREE!"

Have space on your table for Hostess Specials flyers, Recruit Kit flyers, business cards, and Drawing Slips (on a clipboard so they won't dent your books writing on top of them).

If you have a lot of other stuff at the yard sale, it helps to have an extra person taking care of that stuff so you can be around your book table when you see people's interest there, help folks sign the drawing slips and book shows.

Have your calendar ready! You could even put GREEN dots on dates you'd like to book & tell them if they pick a GREEN date, they'll get an extra $10 in free books with their show (using some of the $25 Hostess Books amount). This helps you protect your "family days" and helps them commit to a date.

Remember to offer the extra date credit of $5 for booking within 3 weeks.

I met Pam, who is now one of my downline supervisors, at a show booked from a yard sale!  So, even if you get ONE show booked or make ONE contact, it may be the one that leads to your first Supervisor in YOUR group

2) Offer to do a presentation for a group ...
Are there any groups near where you live - like Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, business women's networking group, Church Women's Club, Teachers In-Service day, homeschool meetings, Mothers of Multiples, ANY Support Groups, etc., that have guest speakers?

Rather than simply approach them regarding "buying or selling", why not offer a presentation about "selecting good children's books" or "how to inspire reading & learning"?  This is not a sales presentation or bookfair, but a free informational service you can give them.  Most groups are starved for interesting speakers.  Why not offer an important topic of interest:
* How to create a educational atmosphere at home (or in the classroom - for teachers) (Suggest they have many great books available & use them often - show books that are educational and interesting.)

* How to select good children's books (Show ones that build pre-reading & reading skills w/ hidden ducks, questions, puzzles, etc., ones that inspire learning w/ related things to do, ones that help make art & projects achievable w/ step by step illustrations, etc.)

* How to select books that will help with school papers & reports, increasing SUCCESS in education.  Feature SAFE internet research! (Show features of good books - like chunks of information w/ more headings & pictures/illustrations so nonfiction is not boring or overwhelming, our computer guides like Homework on the Computer, plus the many benefits of Internet Linked books.)

You don't have to be a trained speaker or have a special degree to do this.  You just need to have access to some really good books & tell things you like about them.  You can do that!

At the end of your talk, you can pass a basket around for people to put their business cards or info in for a drawing for a free book.  They could write their favorite books you showed on the back, &/or the ages of the children in their life.  Now you have everyone's names, phone numbers, & email addresses and can call or email to offer specials, your free newsletter, make sales, book shows, and get referrals.

Also, once you have spoken to the group it will be much easier to be approved for a bookfair or fundraiser because they now trust you and respect you as a "book consultant" as well as a "book salesperson".  You could find out if they have a special group, preschool, organization or family they like to help & offer to do a bookfair or fundraiser for their benefit.

3) Set up at area festivals, fairs, carnivals, meetings and any other community events
Look in the newspaper, at flyers on church & grocery store bulletin boards, ask around and call the Chamber of Commerce to find out about any booth possibilities for you to set up books.

You can even do NO SELLING events!
